Public Speaking As A Lecturer
A lecturer is one of the public speakers in the world; we have to understand ethics in public speaking and how to speak in public as a lecturer. For example when I lecture students in the classroom, I use formal language so that students could see how to speak in public. I also explain detailed how to speak in public if the students are younger or even older than the speaker. To make it is more obvious; I select the topic, explaining it with some theories and supporting it with my ideas or additional information that I have, to make the students easier to understand it. I make a mind map regarding the subject and give explanations and other aspects that I have to explain to the students so that the students is more understand the materials. Besides explain about the explanations, to make students get important points when give a speech, I give the example speech in front of the class along with gesture, and tell how start and end the speech.
As a public speaker, especially a lecturer we have to decide use script or cue card, it is longer when use the script but it is detail, different from using script, cue card is simpler because there are only important points, I try to make students interested when I begin to give the speech, and I keep more interactive with students while giving speech, I do not forget to polish my speech when I teach in the classroom. Using Visual aids make the students interested in paying attention to the material, like using the creative PowerPoint in delivering material and show that to the students, it makes easier students to comprehend the material than only using textual aids that is boring for students, do not forget to hand out the students copy the soft file so students can learn at anywhere they are. Before I begin to teach students in classroom, I need to check the classroom and other facilities available in well-conditioned or no because it can affect the course of process learning or studying. At first, I was nervous, it caused my voice to vibrate and my articulation was unclear (a lot saying umm, etc.), sometimes I sit on the chair or just stand while teaching; even though I teach in sitting on chair, I want to students keep paying attention so I maintain eye contact or give simple question to them. Taking question sometimes so useful to improve the student skills whether it is in oral or written, as a lecture I stay in control whatever the situation is, for the people who difficult to understand immediately then I usually give them simplified speech that is easy to understand by collaborating with existing circumstances.
